eNews October 2009 - video bus, claustrophobia research, featured installation

Screw Auger Falls on Bear River in Grafton Notch State Park, Maine, shot with the RED One digital cinema camera.
Shooting digital cinema and still photographs in the woods of Western Maine as the maples and birch are changing color is a stunning contrast to working in the open expanses of Oregon's high desert mountains where we photographed in July. With fall color nearing its peak, nature and fortunate timing are working together to provide a series of spectacular opportunities that keep the team packing equipment through the woods from dawn to dusk shooting both SkyV and eScape footage. After several days on Maine' famous coastline, we hope to finish this trip with a week shooting near Mt. Katahdin - then a few stops in New Hampshire, Vermont and upstate New York. An unexpected surprise is the appreciation and help from locals who are revealing, and sending us to their favorite 'secret spots' - we look forward to sharing them with you.

The Sky Factory is currently collaborating with several researchers on studies to define and quantify the benefits of our Luminous SkyCeilings in healthcare settings and in the general reduction of stress.

A situation of particular interest is the occurrence of claustrophobic reactions in patients undergoing MRI scans. There is a large body of anecdotal evidence that Sky Factory Luminous SkyCeilings increase patient relaxation and calm as well as reduce claustrophobic events in the MRI suite. We feel that alleviation of MRI claustrophobia is a potentially significant and measurable effect of SkyCeilings that may lead to further areas of useful study.

The Sky Factory wishes to collaborate with researchers interested in undertaking a controlled study to determine in what ways Luminous SkyCeilings may alleviate claustrophobic reactions. This will entail a commitment to create a rigorous protocol, arrange for the necessary facility and resources to conduct, analyze, and prepare publishable research.

Specialists in Urology of Naples, Florida, is a multi-facility, comprehensive practice with specializations in advanced robotic prostate cancer treatment. The new Prostate Center, designed by Reynolds, Smith, & Hills and built by Precise Construction, includes installations of Sky Factory Luminous SkyCeilings in the radiation treatment and CT suites.

"I've had more than a few people ask me how we put a large skylight in the ceiling of a radiation vault," said Scott Johnson, project manager. "People are quite surprised when we tell them they are looking at a picture."
